Volunteer will have active role throughout whole project because we will give her the opportunity to learn as much as possible by herself and about herself. This project also gives her the great opportunity to learn by doing in a new environment. All her tasks can be divided in two groups:
· First group constitutes of participation in ongoing activities and projects and helping with everyday office tasks. She will also be given Serbian language course in order to integrate better in the organization and local community as well. These activities will be implemented from beginning of the service (September 2012) until the end (April 2013).
· Second group of activities (essential part of the project) can be divided in two sub groups:
Human library workshops: The human library is an innovative method designed to promote dialogue, reduce stereotypes and prejudices and encourage mutual understanding. The main characteristics of this method are its simplicity and positive approach. Visitors (readers) to a human library are given the opportunity to speak informally with “people (book) on loan”. They loan a book from librarian, who has important role in entire process.
In this method we can identify three groups of actors:
- Book is a person – representative of marginalized and/or discriminated group which is ready to talk about his/her group videlicet to answer the questions about his/her group. In our case the volunteer will be representative of several groups (comes from foreign country, confesses a different religion, he is a volunteer in nongovernmental organization...).
- Reader – is a person who loans the book and “reads” her by asking questions. In this project readers will be secondary school students who live in Jablanica district (district where Leskovac is situated).
- Librarian - The librarian plays an important part, both as a facilitator of loans, and as the one responsible for keeping the books in check. He/She takes care about the time and makes sure that everybody feels comfortable and safe. During this project librarian is going to be a representative of Educational centre.
